Last year Sean and Jonathan Hayes attended an Alpha Course at St Andrews Methodist Church and afterwards Sean asked if we could run one for young people at Baildon Methodist Church.

The Alpha Course seeks to introduce people to the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by its organisers as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”.  Alpha courses are being run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities and many other locations.
The Alpha Youth series is a brand new, interactive product from Alpha. The series explores life, faith and meaning. Each episode looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. It’s for young people and is designed for those with no Christian or church background, but is also helpful for those with some church involvement to help them explore their own faith and beliefs.

Alpha Youth is typically run over 9 weeks with a weekend/day away.  In each session you eat food, watch a video, and discuss questions in small groups.  Food has a way of bringing people together and building community.  So even if it’s a light snack, sweets or a full meal, Alpha always starts with food.  The videos tackle core questions about life and faith from a Christian perspective.

Throughout each episode, there are three discussion breaks. These breaks give everyone a chance to share thoughts and ideas in small groups without fear of being corrected or judged.  Along the way there are opportunities to experience worship through music and moments for prayer. All of this is done in a fun environment where anyone is welcome.

Baildon Methodist Church is hosting an Alpha Youth course between January – April 2020 and we are looking for young people to take part and adults to help out.
Your involvement could range from simply promoting the course to young people (those currently at Secondary School), to offering to help run the course.
Adults will be needed to prepare food each week, welcome and support the young people and lead sessions and small groups.

If you would like to be involved in either promoting Alpha Youth to young people, or bringing young people along to it, or helping out in some way, we’d love to hear from you. Please email me at
