UPDATE: BAQOUN CHRISTIAN DANCERS FROM BETHLEHEM
Tickets are now available to see the Baqoun Christian Dance Group from Bethlehem. Performances will be at several venues in Yorkshire between 16th and 27th June 2016.
The group is made up of 16 young Christian Palestinians from the Bethlehem district of the West Bank. Their visit will offer a unique opportunity for church members and others to become better informed about life in Palestine today, and to grow their awareness and prayerful concern for the Christian population in Palestine and Israel.
The planning group for this project has largely been made up of representatives of the Anglican Diocese, but Chris Flecknoe of Baildon Methodist Church and Rev Sarah Jemison of Bradford South have both been involved in the preparations for this visit and one of the performances is at Brighouse Central Methodist Church. Baildon Methodist Church Council has made a donation towards the costs and two of the young dancers will be staying with Mervyn and Chris Flecknoe and will attend our 10 o’clock worship on the morning of Sunday 19 June
Dates have now been confirmed for:
- June 17th 7:00pm Wakefield Cathedral
- June 19th 3:00pm Brighouse Central Methodist Church and 7:00pm Bradford Cathedral
- June 20th 7:00pm Beverley Minster

Finally please pray for the event, that it will be a wonderful opportunity for us to link up with the Christian population in the Holy Land, so that we are able to pray for them in a much more vibrant and informed way in the future. Pray too that it will be a wonderful adventure for these young people, for the UK Embassy in Amman as we await news of their Visa applications, and for safety in all of their travels.
Canon Gordon Dey, on behalf of the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales; and Rev Sarah Jemison and Chris Flecknoe from Bradford South and North Circuits.
The Church’s good friend Canon Gordon Dey is leading a project under the title of ‘From Bethlehem with love’, which aims to help bring a troupe of 16 talented young Christian actors and dancers from Bethlehem to Yorkshire next June.
Baqoun, a group of Palestinian Christians aged 16 to 24, have been invited to come to Yorkshire for a 12 day visit to bring a taste of Bethlehem and the Holy Land to churches and schools. They will be leading workshops and cultural evenings which aim to spread understanding of the challenges facing Christians in Palestine and the Middle East while offering a series of exciting celebration events which will include energetic dance and drama, food, culture and conversation. We hope that two of the dancers may stay in Baildon and be able to visit our church.
