Worship: Wk 2
Filling worship with Awe, Wonder, and Love
Led by Claire Nott
Genesis 28:16-17 Jacob woke up from his sleep. He said, “God is in this place—truly. And I didn’t even know it!” He was terrified. He whispered in awe, “Incredible. Wonderful. Holy. This is God’s House. This is the Gate of Heaven.”
David Foster Wallace Everybody worships. The choice is what to worship… pretty much what you worship will eat you alive.
If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough.
Worship your body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you. The whole trick is keeping the truth up front in daily consciousness
Frederick Lewis Donaldson
The Seven Social Sins are:
Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Worship without sacrifice.
Politics without principle
This week’s challenge
- Can I worship just singing and listening?
- What is the value of familiar repetition in worship?
- How can worship be led by the Spirit?
- If I am angry, resentful, or feeling bad, can I still worship?
God beyond my words,
Touch my heart with your love, and my life with your presence.
Help me to offer my best, all that I value, as I focus on your purpose and seek the guidance of your Spirit.
Receive my worship as a gift filled with love.
