After the success of Riding Lights visit to Baildon Methodist Church in April this year, there’s another opportunity to see their – A Different Drum – this coming October in Keighley.
With its stirring music and powerful story-telling, this inspiring show is created around the theme of the golden rule, to do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Riding Lights has often toured passion plays over the Easter season, but A Different Drum is an intriguing variation on this theme. It is offered as an alternative passion play, where the focus is on the stories of ordinary people who have dared to follow in Christ’s footsteps, taking up their cross to transform the lives of others.
This show offers our local community a great opportunity to invite friends and neighbours to experience a theatre performance full of the hallmark professionalism, theatrical invention and joyful challenge which Riding Lights brings.
About the show
Telling stories of resistance, sacrifice and love in action, A Different Drum asks us to consider how different the world would be if we responded unswervingly to the challenge of Jesus’s golden rule.
Beginning in 17th century Derbyshire where the village of Eyam chooses a bold path of isolation in the face of the plague, the show follows a thread through history, picking up accounts of similar men and women who dare to break the boundaries of self-interest.
Stories of sacrifice, however small, challenge us. They ask the question ‘what would I do in this situation?’ More than this, they inspire us to live up to the ‘greater love’ at the heart of the gospel. For christians and non-christians alike, the stories told by a different drum ask us to consider what would happen if we planted the seeds of Christ’s revolutionary love in our community?
From previous experience this show, staged in the round with a strong sense of audience involvement, has an uplifting effect in any community.
For 2013, Riding Lights is recreating the show with new stories of remarkable love and radical action. A Different Drum is an evening of memorable and thought-provoking entertainment.
