The old normal – and a new normal? (continued)

In Matthew 6:28, Jesus exhorts us to “consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.”

The exhaustion of constant work and activity, especially in cities, has been set against the quietude of plane-less skies, car-less streets and furloughed work.  Some have suffered greatly.  Almost all have had time to think.  Many have re-discovered the green and blossoming beauty around us.  We have realised that we are not separate from nature: we are nature.  If we are fortunate enough to have a car, its batteries have sometimes gone flat.  We walk locally.  If young, we are cycling more.  Here on the edge of Bradford, Yorkshire, I see more horse-riders on the roads.  I savour the aroma of flowers.  I listen to the suddenly singing birds.
