Towards the end of 2013, Rev Canon Gordon Dey inspired us talking about his work at St Christopher’s on the Holme Wood Estate
He called it the “Jesus-Shaped People Adventure (JSP)”. JSP allowed us to focus on the essence of Christianity, on the life, teaching, and example of Jesus
Every year, we devote at least five weeks to JSP, when each group and meeting for Worship is based on the five characteristics of Jesus’ life, teaching and example
Everything you need to become a Christian and nothing you don’t
Gordon identified five characteristics that we should seek to emulate
Jesus worked with people
Out on the streets: with people on the edge: He responded to real needs
His teaching was clear, amusing, story-based, & challenging
He captured hearts and minds: He showed we had to unlearn habits of bigotry
He tapped people on the shoulder and built teams
He built relationships with common purpose & offered training on the job
He frequently retired in prayer
To check he was still on mission, asking for strength, & praying for others
He demonstrated prophetic challenge
He spoke truth to power about social injustice & religious intolerance
Over the last 10 years, we have tried to learn His ways & apply them to our lives
We have learned to test all Bible teaching against Jesus’ commands of love
Churches are welcome to download,, adapt, & use, any of our JSP publications, the downloads are ALL in booklet format, see below
